5. Research Properties

There are several effective ways to begin searching for properties. Here are some methods that we recommend:

Search Property Web Sites-There are hundreds of sites that offer property listings that include price, location, description, community info. and even virtual tours. The best method to get a listing of these sites is to go to a search engine such as Yahoo, and search for Real Estate in the cities you are interested in.

Search the local Newspapers
Most local newspapers will dedicate a certain section to real estate listings. These listings will range from "for sale by owner" to "Realtor" listings. This is another great source of information to begin with before you start setting up appointments.

Real Estate Agents
Realtors can add tremendous value to your home search. A realtor who has extensive knowledge and experience should be able to lead you to the homes and neighborhoods that fit your needs. Before going out with a realtor to look at properties, you should Get Pre-Approved. This will allow you to target homes in a price range that you have been approved for. More importantly, a Pre-Approval will give you more bargaining power when you go to make an offer. If you are pre-approved, you will have an advantage over a homebuyer who is not.
